Chile regulator to deliver audit of Codelco's copper output within 2 months

SANTIAGO - Chile's comptroller general's office said on Tuesday it expects to deliver an audit of Codelco's 2025 production data within two months, after the State-owned miner revealed it was investigating new evidence of over-reported copper production.
Codelco, one of the world's largest copper producers, said earlier this month that its 2024-2025 production figures appeared to contain artificially inflated output from the Ministro Hales and Salvador divisions, potentially due to both mines claiming the same production.
Codelco previously fired an executive and took disciplinary action against others following an audit into improper reporting of its 2025 production involving the Chuquicamata and Ministro Hales mines.
At the start of the year, Codelco reported a sharp drop in production, leading copper industry analysts and former Codelco executives to question its reports of surging output at the end of 2025 that helped the company meet its annual production target, Reuters reporting showed in March.
