JSE-listed mining and metals company Harmony Gold has reported that one of its employees was killed at its Mponeng mine in Gauteng’s West Rand on September 14.
The company says the incident occurred following a seismic event in an underground working area.
Work in the affected area has been suspended while a thorough investigation is conducted to determine the circumstance and identify any additional measures needed to strengthen safety controls and risk management practices.
The company has notified the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, and support is being provided to those immediately affected by the incident.
