Halo granted mining permit for copper tailings processing in Chile

Aim-listed copper recovery company Halo Minerals and its subsidiary Minera Playa Verde have been granted a key mining permit for the Playa Verde copper and gold tailings processing project in Chile.
The permit authorises mining works relating to the dredging of mineral-bearing material at Chañaral beach, an important step as Halo advances the project towards a final investment decision (FID) and development.
Halo and Minera Playa Verde plan to dredge mineral-bearing material and process it through a metallurgical plant to recover copper as cathodes and concentrates.
"Playa Verde presents an opportunity to recover copper from historic mine tailings while treating and conditioning material that has accumulated on the beach at Chañaral. We believe this combination of copper production and environmental benefits differentiates Playa Verde and reinforces its potential to become a responsibly developed source of copper.
"Our focus now is on completing the remaining workstreams to take Playa Verde to an FID," says Halo CEO Andrew Dennan.
The Playa Verde project is planned to process about five-million tonnes of ore a year to produce about 8600 t/y of payable copper, which should generate $50-million of cashflow every year.
