Rainbow Rare Earths makes new executive, managerial appointments

Rainbow Rare Earths makes new executive, managerial appointments
05 August 20265 Mins read

LSE-listed Rainbow Rare Earths has confirmed the appointments of James Beams as executive director and Brent Holme as the company’s environmental, social and sustainability manager, with both appointments effective immediately.

Rainbow CEO George Bennett says these appointments significantly strengthen its leadership team, adding deep commercial, critical minerals and environmental, social and governance (ESG) expertise to the company as it transitions from the feasibility study phases and project development towards execution and production.

"We are delighted to welcome James to the board and Brent to senior management at a pivotal point in Rainbow's development. As we advance our two world-class rare earth projects at Phalaborwa, in South Africa, and Uberaba, in Brazil, towards development, it is increasingly important that we support the company's commercial, strategic and ESG capabilities,” he says.

In his incoming role as executive director, Beams will be responsible for supporting and integrating offtake negotiations and agreements, project finance and material contracts for Rainbow as it evolves into an operating business.

He has previously spent 14 years with multinational mining company Anglo American, where he held several senior leadership positions, including serving as CFO of the company's copper business in Chile and as the base metals business development head.

He has also held executive and board positions with several mining companies focused on project development, financing and strategic growth and currently serves as tin and tungsten producer Trinity Metals nonexecutive director.

“I am delighted to join Rainbow at such an exciting stage in its evolution. The company has established two highly attractive rare earth opportunities in South Africa and Brazil, both of which have the potential to become important sources of critical minerals required for many of the advanced technologies upon which we increasingly rely,” Beams comments.

Meanwhile, for Holme, he will ensure that environmental, social and sustainability considerations are integrated across the company’s operations and Rainbow highlights that his role will be particularly important in the context of the development of the Phalaborwa rare earths project, in Limpopo, as a brownfield site.

Holme joins Rainbow from consulting engineering company Hatch, where he served as the company’s Africa environment and sustainability lead, guiding a multidisciplinary team and supporting major mining and infrastructure projects.

Prior to this, he held senior environmental leadership roles at risk consultancy Marsh Advisory and founded his own environmental consultancy.

“I am delighted to be joining Rainbow at such a pivotal point in its growth. The company has a genuinely compelling story to tell; recovering critical rare earths from an existing waste stream peaks directly to the global energy transition and the circular economy, and it is rare to find a project that ticks both boxes so clearly,” Holme says.
